Not real happy with Midwayusa...

A few month ago I bought a Reminton 700 SPS Varmint in .308... Saved up bought it cash (trying not to use credit for anymore Non-Emergency expensive) then saved up for a hopfully nice scope to put on it...

So, I placed and order for a scope and a few accessories with Midwayusa... I called before I placed the order and said, Hey, I want to order a few things off your website, do you have them in stock??? Here are the Part #s... The person on the phone checked each of the four part numbers and said yes we do and we get more of those in almost every day... I said great, I place the order on the web so I can track it and look at my orders online if I need too...

I placed my order three days shy of a month ago....

Date of Order Desc of Part QTY Date Expected
03-25-2008 Nightforce Benchrest Rifle Scope 30mm Tube 12-42x 56mm Adjustable Objective Illuminated NP-2DD Reticle Matte 1 5/9/2008
03-25-2008 Butler Creek Flip-Up Rifle Scope Lens Cover #18 Eyepiece 1 5/4/2008
03-25-2008 Butler Creek Flip-Up Rifle Scope Lens Cover #51 Objective 1 5/7/2008
03-25-2008 Wheeler Engineering FAT (Firearm Accurizing Torque) Torque Wrench Screwdriver 1 4/26/2008

Every few days I check online and the dates seem to keep pushing out another week or two...
I could cancel and order somewhere else, but then I'd have to start the waiting process over again and hope the 1st plaec doesn't accidently change my card for it anyway...

I don't really expect a solution, I just wanted to whine and vent a bit...

You aren't alone! I purchased my AR-15 a couple months ago and purchased a "BSA Sweet 223" scope for it. I was looking all over for some decent scope rings that will get it high enough to see around the front sight. Midway had just what I was looking for. Well, almost... They could be backordered. The estimated ship date keeps getting pushed back. It's been about a month now. I have ordered from them before and this is my first complaint. Perhaps I should give them a call.

Well I hope you get it and soon...

I don't know if calling them will do any good... I've called four times :banghead:and they only tell me what I had already read about my order on the website...

I asked if there was someone in charge of ordering and making sure stuff actually come in that they could call or I could talk too...

Nope, the system just updates itself by data input from the suppliers and it come in when it come in.... That way there is no accountability...

Next time I'm going to demand to speak to Ken Potterfield or whoever that old guy is that does all their commmericals....

Re: Not real happy with Midwayusa...

Potterfield is the owner....
Apples and oranges here, but I'm getting some run around on shooting stuff from others-date and delivery stuff as well. This is airgun stuff (got plen-T of firestix...diversifying)
and the arena seems to be a feeding frenzy. Or I want the same stuff as everyone else....
Midway has been fine for me, but lack of availability (molds) has pushed me over to other retailers recently. Given my buying habits have shifted focus, I do a little less with Midway than in the past. Happily, this bodes well for the market-the # of people who are in the right groove. Maybe we should be happy instead....

One of the guys from our shooting group placed a good size order from Midway recently for the group of us. Like within the last ten days. Half of the stuff we ordered was backordered. Bullet molds, Bore Snakes were a couple items missing. The sight black came in another shipment. Not sure what the deal was other than JIT inventory on Midways part.

Re: Not real happy with Midwayusa...

Midways JIT inventory system is screwed up hard. This didn't used to happen, it's new for the past few months. Personally I'd call cancel the order and tell them why. Tell them that you will consider them again once they get their act together.

Try midsouth or weidners.

Re: Not real happy with Midwayusa...

:rolleyes_m: Sorry to hear that.

I had a similar problem with them for a big order of reloading supplies.
I never had anything back ordered from Graf & Son in the last ten years...they ship fast.If any item is back ordered they usually cancel the order...apparently Midway USA wants to hold onto your money.

Their online inventory system must update once a week instead of real time which is no excuse for the sales rep lying to you.

I would cancel the order...a month is way over the line.

A guy showed for one of our matches with a BSA scope mounted on a FN 308 bolt gun. After unsuccessful attempts to get the rig on paper, we found that the scope was shifting point of aim by over a foot from shot to shot. The mounts and bases were tight.

We have since learned that BSA scopes are manufactured by PETA.

The Nightforce that smullen is trying to get it a first rate scope if a little on the expensive side. That scope is in the $1200-$1400 range last I looked.

PETA makes BSA! Hillarious! I think PETA also makes Simmons scopes.

So, BSA = Bull Shit Accuracy? I guess I'll find out once I try to sight mine in.

Re: Not real happy with Midwayusa...

:rolleyes_m: When BSA got back into the optics market several years ago they had a hard time finding a manufacturer.
Some of the initial rifle scopes shipped to the US and Europe were manufactured in Japan,by who I don't know.

I bought several more after seeing the MIJ label on the first BSA box,no regrets...all were deadly accurate and on par with Burris IMHO.

Like everybody else they probably found a cheaper supplier in China as sales increased.

Don't know about the present quality of BSA scopes, but even Nikon farms out the majority of their US market rifle scopes offshore to China now.

A friend bought a $300.00 Nikon 3x9x50 Buckmaster scope last year for his .308 and the box was labeled Made in China...

I'm looking hard at a few of the Pentax model rifle scopes.
I'm guessing they're actually still MIJ.

I could be wrong, nice looking scopes though...

The best mid-grade scope that I've found was made by Bushnell and used to be marketed under the name Bausch and Lomb 4200. A couple of years ago B&L withdrew the license to use the name and they are now sold as Bushnell Elite 4200. The 6x24 is particularly good, I have 3 and have used them extensively in competition. The optics are very clear, you can do a perfect "box" with the click adjustments and return to the original zero, and they hold point of impact. The compare well to some very high end optics that I have costing more that 4 times as much.

Here's one of mine atop my AR.

Really, I did not know that... I'll have to check them out.... Thanks for the Heads up... I'm not too far from St. Chuck, maybe 20-30 minutes...

As far as Midway goes, I called and cancelled the part that was on back order... That was the Wheeler Engineering torque screwdriver kit... For torqing on scope rings and such...

UPS tracking Number says my order will be here Monday...

That damn Wheeler Engineering torque driver was what was holding up the whole order... I checked like 5 or 6 other sites including the actual makers of the damn thing and they are all out of stock..:banghead:

I even tried to get the more expensive kit that has the scope rings alliging and lap rods in addition to the torque driver... Out of Stock, all backordered....
